The Trump-endorsed candidate in the May 24 Republican primary for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District seat, Jake Evans, spoke with The Georgia Star News about the importance of former President Donald Trump’s endorsement and what it was like to meet with him.
“I believe firmly that the America First agenda delivered four of the best years that we’ve had in a very very long time, definitely since the Reagan era,” said Evans. “I believe in secure borders, protecting our law enforcement, less regulations, lower taxes – all of which President Trump did.”
“Over the process I reached out and voiced my support for him and his agenda – also, the fact that I’d love and be honored to have his endorsement,” he continued. “I continue to run the bold, unafraid America First campaign that I’ve ran.”
“We had our debate. The president watches these debates. He did with J.D. Vance. I think he watched my debate and he liked what he saw,” the candidate added.
“I got an invitation to go to Mar-a-Lago. My wife and I met with him for over an hour. We talked about my race, talked about what I stood for, talked about the direction of the country and we agree 100 percent,” Evans said, describing the meeting. “We need America First freedom fighters that are going to get our country back on track, that aren’t going to fold to the radical Left, the media, or the D.C. establishment.”
Evans talked about what an honor it was to receive the endorsement.
“It was huge for my campaign. It is a tremendous honor and responsibility to have his endorsement. There are many many voters that look to who President Trump endorses and they follow that direction almost wholeheartedly,” he said.
“I am supremely honored for that and I’m going to continue to fight for him and his agenda throughout my campaign and if I’m blessed enough to get to D.C.”
Evans took time to explain in more detail to The Star News what it was like to go to Mar-a-Lago for a meeting with Trump.
“You go to Mar-a-Lago and it’s a grandiose building. Its beautiful. I encourage anyone that hasn’t been down there to go down there for a reception or event,” he said. “You check in and then you go back to his office in the back of the complex there. He’s got an office upstairs.”
“He’s got multiple folks that are working in there with him. I actually have President Trump’s personal cellphone [number] now, which is pretty incredible,” he added.
“You sit down with him – at least me, I was awestruck for the first couple minutes, since you’re really looking at a man with immense power. But he is so down-to-earth,” exclaimed Evans. “He is just the most personable, likeable guy you’ve ever met, but he’s also firm. You can see he is very convicted. He’s a fighter. He’s a street fighter. He’s someone I want to emulate.”
Evans additionally shed light on how Trump writes his endorsements, at least in his case.
“It was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. He actually contemporaneously has those endorsements transcribed, which is pretty cool,” he said.
“It was amazing and I’m not going to take it for granted. Its a great responsibility and we’re going to fight for him,” Evans concluded.
